16 Deram-lhe, pois, lugar, e quando ia o caminho por de onde entram os cavaleiros à casa do rei, ali a mataram.

17 Então Joiada fez aliança entre o SENHOR e o rei e o povo, que seriam povo do SENHOR: e também entre o rei e o povo.

18 E todo o povo da terra entrou no templo de Baal, e derrubaram-no: também despedaçaram inteiramente seus altares e suas imagens, e mataram a Matã sacerdote de Baal diante dos altares. E o sacerdote pôs guarnição sobre a casa do SENHOR.

19 Depois tomou os centuriões, e capitães, e os da guarda, e a todo o povo da terra, e levaram ao rei desde a casa do SENHOR, e vieram pelo caminho da porta dos da guarda à casa do rei; e sentou-se o rei sobre o trono dos reis.
