13 Pois castigarei aos que moram na terra do Egito, tal como castiguei a Jerusalém, com espada, fome e pestilência.

14 De maneira que, dos restantes de Judá que entraram na terra do Egito para morar ali, não haverá quem escape, nem quem reste vivo, para voltar à terra de Judá, da qual eles anseiam para voltar a habitar lá; pois não voltarão, a não ser alguns fugitivos.

15 Então todos os homens que sabiam que suas mulheres haviam oferecido incenso a outros deuses, e todas as mulheres que estavam presentes, uma grande multidão, e todo o povo que habitava na terra do Egito, em Patros, responderam a Jeremias, dizendo:

16 Quanto a palavra que tu nos falaste em nome do SENHOR, não daremos ouvidos a ti;

17 Em vez disso certamente faremos toda a palavra que saiu de nossa boca, para oferecer incenso à rainha dos céus, e para lhe apresentar ofertas de bebidas, tal como temos feito, nós e nossos pais, nossos reis e nossos príncipes, nas cidades de Judá, e nas ruas de Jerusalém, quando nos fartávamos de pão, vivíamos bem, e não víamos calamidade alguma.
