Jesus uses deliberate hyperbole — not commanding literal mutilation but demanding radical, decisive action against whatever leads you into sin. The standard is total removal, not moderation or management: if something habitually pulls you toward sin, cut it out of your life entirely, whatever it costs.
Matthew 5:29 KJV“And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.”

Jesus calls for radical, decisive action against what leads you into sin — not gradual reduction, not moderation, not managing the problem, but total removal. The standard here is absolute: if it causes you to sin, cut it away, even if it is something valuable. Are you actually doing that? Or do you still carry things in your life that you know are pulling you toward sin, and have not yet removed?
If your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. If anything in your life leads you to sin, cut it off — today, completely, no conditions. You know what it is. Not moderation, not management, not 'I'll be more careful' — total removal. Cancel it, throw it away, delete it, end it. The command is absolute. Whatever is pulling you toward sin must go, even if it costs you, even if it's valuable. Identify the thing right now — then cut it off.
When you obey this command by removing what causes you to sin, you experience deeper intimacy with the Father. This costly act of surrender demonstrates trust in His better way. It builds a relationship founded on obedience and dependence rather than self-reliance or compromise. Such removal of sin affirms your commitment to Him and draws you closer into His love and purpose.
