The Kingdom of Light

Ages 12 and up — 35 min read

A young knight named Valor sets out across a dark land in pursuit of a hidden Kingdom — and learns that the greatest of all is Love.

An allegorical journey about faith, hope, and love. Valor crosses indifference, distraction, false preparation, persecution, confusion, and false teaching — and discovers that no one finds the Kingdom of Light without the Great Knight of Old.

A story driven by love. In the end are faith, hope, and love. The greatest of all is Love, because there is no greater love than to lay your life down for your friends.

The Indifferent Land

In a realm far removed from where our quest will start, there lay a desolate land known as Apathy. The sun hung low in the sky, casting a dull, gray light over the barren fields and crumbling villages. The people of Apathy moved through their days with a heavy indifference, their hearts encased in a shroud of complacency.

Among them was a lone boy named Valor, a figure of radiant hope amidst the grayness. Clad in shimmering armor that glimmered even in the dim light, he walked through the streets of Apathy, his sword sheathed at his side, but his spirit ablaze with purpose. He had journeyed to this land, not to conquer or to claim, but to share the light of his faith and the seal of a higher calling.

“There is better than this!” declared Valor. “There is a Kingdom of Light, where Love reigns. A place where you can be more than what you see before you. You cannot see this Kingdom, unless you cross the barren lands. I know it’s true, and I am on a quest to pursue this Kingdom, and perhaps bring that light to the world.”

Valor met eyes with one old man who could see there was something authentic in this young boy. When the rest of the townsfolk left, the old man offered him many things for his journey. Valor refused everything. “Where I am going, these things will only slow me down.” He silently resolved in his heart that he should journey alone. His love for the people and for God would be his company during whatever this journey held.

Jaws of Death

As Valor journeyed toward the fiery cliffs that loomed in the distance, the ground beneath him shifted, revealing the scars of battles long past. With each step, the temperature rose, and the stench of sulfur filled the air. Valor descended into the valley, flanked by towering cliffs that seemed to close in around him like the jaws of a lion.

Suddenly, fireballs erupted from the shadows, hurtling toward him with deadly intent. The knight raised his hand, his very resolve turned the fiery projectiles to scattered dust before they reached him. He pressed onward, unwavering. As he fought through this valley, he felt a warmth at his side — a presence that filled him with courage. It was the Lord, guiding him, granting him strength beyond his own.
