The second great commandment makes your instinctive self-care the measuring stick for how you treat others: the same urgency, practicality, and grace you extend to yourself. And as the Good Samaritan parable shows, “neighbor” includes whoever is in front of you in need — even an enemy.
Matthew 22:39 KJV“And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”

Jesus commands love for your neighbor at the same level you naturally give yourself. You don't deliberate about meeting your own needs — you just do it. That same instinctive, consistent, attentive care is what you are called to extend to the people around you. Think of the specific people in your daily life — neighbors, coworkers, the difficult ones. Are you attending to their wellbeing with the same care you give your own?
Love your neighbor as yourself today. You know their needs as well as you know your own. The next time you see someone struggling — carrying too much, alone, overlooked — meet the need as instinctively as you would your own. No hesitation, no conditions. Give the same immediate care you give yourself. Do it before the day ends.
When you love your neighbor as yourself, you display the Father's compassion through your own hands. This care reveals His heart and draws you deeper into His love as you give what you have received. You become an extension of His care in the world.
